Bambu Lab A1 setup: from the box to a ready printer

Set up a Bambu Lab A1 safely, remove every transport restraint, install the spool holder or AMS lite, and complete the first calibration.

The A1 arrives mostly assembled, but that does not make the first ten minutes disposable. A missed shipping screw or a cable routed into the bed’s travel can turn an easy setup into a frustrating first print.

Start with the printer on a rigid table. The bed moves forward and backward, so leave clearance behind and in front of the machine. Remove the foam, tape, cardboard and every marked transport fastener in the order shown in the current Bambu Lab A1 setup guide. Do not pull on a cable to free packing material.

Attach the spool holder and filament guide for a single-spool A1. If you have an AMS lite Combo, assemble its stand, seat the four spool holders and route each PTFE tube to the numbered inlet shown by Bambu. A tube should curve smoothly rather than kink or press against the moving bed.

Connect the display and power cable only after the mechanical work is finished. On startup, select the correct region and network settings, install a firmware update if the printer offers one, then run the complete initial calibration. The machine will move and make noticeable vibration during this routine. Keep tools, packing material and hands outside its travel.

Before loading filament, wash the build plate with warm water and plain dish soap if it has fingerprints. Dry it with a clean lint-free cloth and reinstall it against the rear guides. Check that the selected plate type on the printer matches the physical plate.

The setup is finished when calibration passes, the plate is seated flat, filament feeds without sharp bends and the bed can use its full travel without touching a wall or cable. Keep the box and molded packing. They are much safer than improvised padding if the printer ever needs service.
