Bambu Lab A1 calibration: what to run and when

Understand Bambu Lab A1 calibration, including bed leveling, vibration compensation and filament flow checks, without rerunning everything blindly.

The A1 can calibrate several different things. Running every test after every small problem wastes time and can hide the actual cause.

Run the full machine calibration after initial assembly, after moving the printer to a different table, or when the firmware specifically asks for it. The routine checks motion behavior and the bed. Give the machine its full travel area and do not lean on the table while it measures vibration.

Automatic bed leveling measures the plate before a print. Use it after changing plates, disturbing the hotend, moving the machine or seeing a first-layer error that cleaning did not fix. The nozzle and plate must be free of plastic residue because a tiny blob can corrupt the measurement.

Filament calibration has a different job. Flow dynamics compensates for pressure changes during acceleration. Flow-rate calibration adjusts how much material the slicer requests. Use the calibration tools supported by the current Bambu Studio version when a third-party filament prints consistently over- or under-filled. Keep the temperature, nozzle and filament dry while testing.

Change one layer of the system at a time. If only one spool produces rough walls, calibrate that filament preset. If every material shows the same uneven first layer, inspect the plate and machine calibration instead. If the printer suddenly makes mechanical noise, stop and inspect it; calibration is not a repair routine.

Name custom filament presets with the brand, material and nozzle size. That small habit prevents a good result from being applied to the wrong spool later.

These calibration routines assume the printer was set up correctly in the first place, so if results stay uneven, it is worth rechecking the A1’s initial setup and first calibration pass.
