The Adventurer 5M arrives about 95 percent assembled, a CoreXY machine on an open frame rather than inside an enclosure. That still leaves foam blocks and a handful of screws sitting in places that matter before you reach the 220 x 220 x 220 mm bed.
Lift it out using the two plastic handles molded into the base rather than gripping the gantry, and set it on a flat, rigid table with room around the open frame. Clear the chamber foam, the accessory box, filament, power cord and screen, then free the extruder by pushing the nozzle forward the way Flashforge’s own unboxing guide shows, instead of tugging on the print head itself.
Bolt the spool holder to the back panel with the 2.0 mm Allen wrench from the accessory box, protruding tab facing up. Feed the filament guide tube in at both ends, the front into the extruder and the back into the filament run-out sensor buckle, so it doesn’t pop loose the first time you load a spool.
Peel the protective tape off the screen cable before plugging it in, seat the cable into the screen’s connector, and press the buckle down. Slide the screen’s rear clip into the printer’s slot and push left until it locks. If you ended up with the enclosed 5M Pro instead, the chamber and screen steps look a little different, but this is the open-frame 5M.
Four screws hold the spring steel bed still for shipping. Remove them with the same 2.0 mm Allen wrench before you power on, or the first homing cycle will fight against bolts that were never meant to move.
Power on and let the touchscreen walk you through language, Wi-Fi and FlashMaker pairing, which you can skip. The printer then homes all three axes, heats the nozzle and bed, wipes the nozzle clean, and runs a 25-point ADM leveling pass followed by an XY vibration check. Keep the table steady through that cycle, since it’s measuring the real relationship between nozzle and bed rather than applying a fixed number.
Once ADM leveling has passed and the plate sits flat, treat this as the first checkpoint rather than the finish line. The broader first-print checklist covers what to expect next, and the Adventurer 5M first print guide walks through that first controlled run. Before that run, loading filament correctly is the step that comes right after this one.
