Creality Hi Error Code Index

A breakdown of the Creality Hi’s on-screen error codes, from cutter and CFS feed faults to system errors, based on Creality’s official per-code wiki articles.

Research note: Unlike some newer Creality models, the Creality Hi has a genuinely well-documented set of official troubleshooting pages. Creality’s wiki (wiki.creality.com/en/cr-series/creality-hi) lists seven dedicated “Error Code Troubleshooting” articles for this model: CM2789, FO2845, FR2849, TC2854, XS2001, XS2060 and AC0104, each with its own phenomenon description, cause analysis and step-by-step fix. The Hi also runs Creality OS and shares the broader “Creality OS Error Code” reference list published at wiki.creality.com/en/printers-general-documents, which covers additional codes used across the same platform (K2 Plus, K1C, K2 SE). This guide is built from those two sources plus the Hi’s separate “Troubleshooting Other Issues” articles for symptoms that don’t carry a numeric code (ringing, a black or unlit screen, clogged extruder, clogged heat break, filament leakage, fan noise, layer compression, and a cutter that fails to return). Do not confuse this model with the K1C, K2 Plus or other Creality machines, which are different printers with their own separate wiki sections and their own guides on this site.

Reading the code on the Hi’s screen

When something goes wrong, the Hi shows a short alphanumeric code, two letters and four digits, plus a line of plain text underneath. For example: “FR2849, retract issue, filament cannot be returned to CFS hub.” That code is what you should note down and search for, not “printer says there’s an error.” The prefix alone tells you roughly what subsystem triggered it: FR and FO relate to feeding, TC to the cutter, XS to a generic system fault, AC to the AI camera and print-quality detection. Knowing that before you start pulling the machine apart saves a lot of wasted time.

Filament feed and CFS errors

FO2845 is documented in detail on Creality’s wiki: “extruder may be clogged, please click Retry after resolving.” Creality’s own cause analysis lists five separate possibilities behind this single code: uneven or moisture-swollen filament diameter, a spool that’s physically stuck or a CFS shaft not turning freely, slicer extrusion settings mismatched to the filament, a worn or broken extruder gear, or a false trigger from the CFS buffer’s own detection sensor. Because the causes are that varied, the first check Creality recommends is working through them in that order: confirm the filament itself is round and dry, confirm the spool and CFS shaft turn smoothly by hand, then check the extruder gear for stripped teeth before assuming the hot end itself is blocked.

FR2849 is more specific: it fires when filament has already been pulled out of the extruder during unloading, but the CFS hub’s own filament sensor is still reading as triggered. Creality’s documented causes are a spool that didn’t rotate cleanly during unloading, resistance or a jam somewhere in the PTFE tube, or the hub outlet’s detection dome getting physically stuck by filament debris. First check: look at the hub outlet itself for a jam before assuming the sensor is faulty, since a stuck spring-loaded dome is a mechanical problem, not an electrical one.

TC2854 appears specifically during Input Shaping calibration (“filament detected in the extruder, affecting the cutter calibration”), because that calibration routine needs the extruder completely clear of filament to calibrate the cutter’s position. If this fires, retract the filament first; if the retract itself fails, Creality’s fix is to manually unlock the extruder motor and pull it forward by hand to trigger the cutter’s push rod before retrying.

Cutter errors

CM2789 is the Hi’s cutter-jam code, and it’s worth knowing this one specifically because Creality’s cause list is unusually mechanical for a “software” error: a camera shield mounted facing the wrong direction can physically interfere with the cutter’s action, a loose screw on the X-axis right end cap can throw off cutter alignment, and a nozzle cable that’s gotten pinched in the gantry profile can cause the X-motor to bind. First check: look at the camera shield orientation (it should point downward) before you assume the cutter itself is broken, since that single misaligned part is Creality’s first listed cause.

System errors

XS2001 and XS2060 both mean the same thing on the Hi: “system error, please try restart,” and Creality is explicit that the code itself is not diagnostic. Their documented fix is to open the printer’s error history, find whichever non-XS code fired immediately before it, and troubleshoot that earlier code instead, then export the logs if you need to hand the issue to support. Don’t spend time researching XS2001 or XS2060 in isolation; they’re a symptom of something else that already happened.

AI camera and print quality detection

AC0104 (“foreign object detected on the printing plate, printing paused”) is shared across several Creality OS machines including the Hi, but Creality documents a Hi-specific fix path that differs from its other printers: disable the AI detection function in the Creality Cloud app, make sure the machine is on the latest firmware (flashed from a USB drive), and if it still misfires, restore factory settings and restart. This is worth knowing because the fix for the same code differs by model, and applying the K2 Plus / K1C fix (just checking the plate for debris) to a Hi that’s throwing false positives from the camera won’t actually resolve it.

Mechanical issues without a numeric code

Not everything on the Hi shows up as a code. Creality’s wiki separately documents a handful of symptom-based guides: ringing or ghosting in prints (traced to outer wall print speed being set too low, with a documented fix of raising minimum outer wall speed and enabling “don’t slow down outer walls” in the slicer), a black or unlit screen, a clogged extruder or heat break, filament leakage, fan noise or a fan that won’t spin, layer compression, and a cutter that physically fails to return to its resting position. If you’re chasing one of these and there’s no code on screen, search the wiki by the symptom name rather than guessing at a code that doesn’t exist for it.

The Hi shares its underlying platform and several of the same fault codes with the Creality K2 Plus Error Code Index and the Creality SparkX i7 Error Code Index, both built around the same Creality OS error framework, though each model still has its own dedicated troubleshooting articles for the codes unique to it.

When to stop troubleshooting and contact support

The Hi’s own documentation is unusually willing to send you toward a parts replacement (cutter, strain gauge, nozzle, mainboard) once basic checks are exhausted, and it links dedicated replacement guides for exactly that. If you’ve worked through the documented cause list for your code and the fault persists, or if you’re looking at repeated XS-series system errors with no clear underlying code in the history, export the log (Creality has a dedicated “Export Log” guide for this model) and contact official support with the code, the log, and what you already tried. That’s especially true for anything involving the cutter or mainboard, where guessing at a fix risks turning a connector problem into a parts-replacement problem.
