The AD5X pairs a fairly ordinary CoreXY mechanism with the added complexity of the Intelligent Filament System, so its maintenance covers both a standard FDM printer and a filament-switching unit. Splitting the routine into a few habits keeps it manageable instead of one long checklist you never get through.
The removable steel PEI plate is the easiest part to maintain. Wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol between prints, or whenever adhesion seems weaker than usual, and avoid touching the print surface with bare fingers, since skin oils are one of the most common causes of poor first-layer sticking. The printer’s own firmware flags a plate it doesn’t recognize as official, so sticking with a matched replacement plate rather than a generic PEI sheet keeps that detection working the way it’s supposed to.
The IFS needs its own light attention. Check the four filament channels and the 4-in-1 connector now and then for leftover filament fragments or tangles at the spool, since a stuck or tangled strand is the most frequent cause of a feeding or retracting timeout. A number of users have reported the IFS jamming during long, unattended multicolor prints, particularly when a material like ABS sits hot in the nozzle overnight between color changes. That’s not something every AD5X owner runs into, but it’s a fair reason to check in on very long unattended jobs rather than assume a multicolor print will run start to finish with nobody watching.
The quick-release nozzle should be checked for residue buildup around the tip and around the silicone thermal cover, since a missing or shifted cover can trigger a heating fault on its own. Clean it gently rather than forcing debris loose while the nozzle is still hot.
Keep the firmware current too. The AD5X checks for updates automatically over Wi-Fi or Ethernet and prompts you on screen, but IFS firmware updates arrive as a separate step you trigger manually from the device info screen, so it’s worth checking that menu directly after any firmware update instead of assuming both updated together.
Not every problem calls for cleaning or lubrication. A nozzle that stays clogged after a wipe is often better handled with the general steps for clearing a clogged nozzle safely, and one that won’t clear at all points toward replacing the nozzle instead. If cleaning and a fresh leveling pass don’t settle an uneven first layer, work through the AD5X calibration routine before assuming a part has failed.
