When we covered Prusa’s INDX toolchanger shipping in volume earlier this month, it was still an add-on: something you bolted onto a CORE One or CORE One+ you already owned. Buying a fresh printer and paying separately for the kit was the only route in. That changed on August 20, and on August 27 the bigger CORE One L+ joined the lineup too.
A complete printer, not just a kit
Prusa now sells the CORE One+ (Gen 2) with Bondtech INDX pre-installed in four configurations: assembled or as a kit, with 4 or 8 tools. The assembled versions arrive built, calibrated and tested at the factory, which matters more here than it would on a single-nozzle printer, since INDX means aligning up to eight separate toolheads. Prusa’s own product pages list the assembled 4-tool machine at $1,999 and the 8-tool version at $2,249, with shipments starting in mid-October.
For comparison, the INDX conversion kit alone costs $693.52 for 4 tools on top of a printer you already own. The new complete-printer pricing is not cheap, but it removes a step: no ordering a CORE One+ Gen 2, waiting for it to arrive, then ordering the kit separately and spending 5 to 6 hours installing it yourself.
The CORE One L+ finally gets INDX
The larger CORE One L+, with its 27-liter build volume and 60°C chamber, was the obvious gap. Our last INDX update noted that Prusa was still working on an L+ version with no date attached. That gap closed on August 27, when Prusa opened orders for both a CORE One L+ INDX conversion kit and a complete, factory-assembled CORE One L+ INDX printer.
The assembled 8-tool CORE One L+ INDX lists at $2,767.60 on Prusa’s site, shipping starting November 5. Build volume with the toolchanger installed comes to 298 x 275 x 330mm, slightly smaller than the standard CORE One L+ to make room for the tool dock. The rest carries over from the hardware refresh Prusa shipped in mid-August: GT1.5 belts and the nozzle wiper are already built in.
One caveat worth knowing: the nozzles
Prusa published a detail worth passing along instead of glossing over. The nozzles shipping with INDX are surface-hardened, not fully hardened the way Bondtech originally specified. Prusa ran extended wear tests after the fact and says the results came back better than its early accelerated testing suggested, but the practical limits are real: roughly 10kg of PETG-CF, 5kg of PC-CF, or 0.5kg of abrasive Ultraglow filament per nozzle before print quality starts to suffer. Regular materials, PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, Nylon and the rest, are not affected. If your plan for an 8-tool INDX involves running mostly carbon-fiber filament through it, budget for nozzle replacements sooner than the spec sheet implies.
Ship dates are still moving
Worth flagging for anyone about to order: comments on Prusa’s own announcement post show batch numbers shifting after the fact, including at least one buyer whose order moved from an initial Batch 1 placeholder to batch 6 or 7 with no warning. Prusa says the mix-up came from using Batch 1 as a default label before real calculations were done, and that it will use clearer placeholder names going forward. If you order now, treat mid-October and November 5 as starting points rather than guarantees.
