QIDI Q2 maintenance schedule

Follow QIDI’s maintenance schedule for the Q2, covering lead screw and linear rail lubrication, fan cleaning, and nozzle and hotend care intervals.

The QIDI Q2’s maintenance manual covers a handful of areas, and how often each needs attention depends mostly on how much the printer runs. The Z axis lead screws should be inspected and lubricated every one to three months, depending on usage, grease type, and environment. If the screws look dirty or the plate moves with any resistance, deal with it right away rather than waiting for the next check. Clean with a cloth or an old toothbrush, using isopropyl alcohol to cut through built up grease. To relubricate, home the plate, grease the exposed screw in a thin layer, lower the plate, grease it again, home once more, and repeat that movement a few times so the grease spreads evenly, then wipe off the excess near the nuts. QIDI recommends an NLGI grade 2 grease, naming Lucas Oil White Lithium Grease, Super Lube Synthetic Multi Purpose Grease, and Lucas Oil Red N Tacky Grease as examples.

The X and Y linear rails need attention more often, roughly every two to four weeks, sooner if dirty, dry, run hot a lot, or oiled with something lower quality. Clean with a soft cloth or brush and isopropyl alcohol, then apply a light linear motion oil and move the print head by hand to work it into the bearings. QIDI recommends an oil around 68 cSt with no additives, such as Super Lube Synthetic Lightweight Oil or TSI Supercool Synthetic Vacuum Pump Oil, though sewing machine oil or a general 3 in 1 oil works temporarily, with more frequent reapplication needed. A closed enclosure and frequent cleaning in a dusty room both stretch out this interval.

Four fans need regular attention: the hotend cooling fan on the print head’s left side, the part cooling fan behind it, an auxiliary part cooling fan on the chamber’s right side, and the chamber heater fan on its left side. Clean with compressed air while the printer is off, holding the blades steady so the airflow does not spin them past their rated speed.

Nozzle and hotend service each get their own guide, though the nozzle torque spec is worth noting here too: 1.5 to 2.0 N.m when tightened hot. Thermal grease inside the hotend also breaks down faster under heavy high temperature printing. Heat the nozzle only to the temperature suited to the loaded filament, and put on heat resistant gloves before touching either part.
