QIDI Q2 unboxing and setup: from the box to a leveled bed

Unbox the QIDI Q2, clear its transport screws and foam, connect the touchscreen and filament tubes, and let the printer run its first automatic bed leveling pass.

The Q2 is an enclosed CoreXY printer with a 270 x 270 x 256 mm build volume, and the assembled unit runs 402 x 438 x 494 mm, so find it a spot with clearance on every side before you cut the tape. Inside the carton, a foam box holds the main body wrapped in plastic, while the touchscreen ships separately in its own packaging.

Open the carton and lift off the top cover, then pull the foam box out and take the printer’s main body from inside it. Peel away the plastic wrap covering the frame and set the machine on a flat, stable surface with enough room around it to open the front and top panels later.

With the printer in place, unwrap the touchscreen and connect its cables before mounting it onto the printer body. Install the filament extension holder, connect the PTFE tubes running from that holder to the extruder, and plug in the power cable last.

Turn the printer on and choose a display language when it asks. This is also a fine moment to glance over the screen and cable connections again before moving to the bed.

The bed is screwed down for shipping, so remove those screws first, then wait for the bed to rise on its own before you pull out the foam block that was cushioning it from below. Check that the bed moves freely once it’s exposed, cut the zip ties holding parts in place for transit, and remove the cardboard insert along with the strips of tape still stuck to the plate and rails. Fit the remaining PTFE tube, and clear away any leftover foam before closing things up.

From there, the Q2 runs a POST self-test on startup and follows it with an automatic bed leveling pass. Because leveling on this printer comes from a loadcell sensor built into the hotend rather than a separate probe, the nozzle doing the measuring is also the nozzle that prints, so this first pass is zero-offset: there’s no separate probe offset to dial in afterward. Once it finishes, the Q2 is ready for its first print.
