What’s Bambu Lab actually put in the box
The H2S is Bambu Lab’s single-nozzle version of the H2D platform: same 340 x 320 x 340 mm build volume, same actively heated chamber, same CoreXY motion system, just one toolhead instead of two. It ships in a few configurations, and what lands on your doorstep depends on which one you ordered.
For the base H2S, Bambu’s own unboxing guide lists the printer itself, an accessory box, a power cord, and a printed Quick Start Guide. If you bought the AMS Combo, you get the H2S, one AMS 2 Pro unit, and the accessory box, with the power cable packed inside the AMS 2 Pro rather than the printer’s own box. If you bought the Laser Full Combo, you also get a supply box for the laser hardware, and the power cable moves back into the main accessory box. It’s a small detail, but if you’re hunting for the power cord and it’s not where you expect, check whichever box came with your AMS or laser hardware.
Bambu’s documentation notes that packaging contents "may be updated from time to time," so treat this as a baseline, not a guaranteed inventory. There is no way to verify an exact spare parts list (nozzles, PTFE tube lengths, extra build plate clips) from official sources, so don’t assume specifics that aren’t on your printed packing slip.
Removing the shipping locks, in order
This is a heavy, complex machine with a lot of moving parts, and Bambu packs it accordingly. Rushing this step is how people snap belts or crack a heatbed connector before the printer ever prints anything.
Working from Bambu’s official unboxing and packing documentation, the general order is:
- Cut the outer box straps and undo the four clip fasteners holding the outer shell together.
- Remove the four screws that secure the heatbed for transport.
- Cut the zip ties around internal components, including ties that hold the toolhead in place on both sides so it can’t slide during shipping. Bambu is explicit on one point here: do not cut the belt itself, only the ties. Cutting into the belt by mistake means a repair before you can print anything.
- Pull out the foam blocks and protective film sitting in the chamber and around the build plate.
- Gently pull the toolhead forward to reach and remove any remaining foam or packing material tucked behind it.
Hold onto the foam, the screws, and the moisture-proof bag. If you ever move the printer any real distance, or ship it in for service, Bambu’s packing guide describes reinstalling that same foam (above the lead screws, around the AMS, at the rear) and re-securing the toolhead with fresh cable ties. Reusing the original packaging is the safest way to transport this printer again later.
One more thing worth knowing before you power on: during first calibration, the heatbed rises on its own as part of the startup routine. That’s expected, not a malfunction, but it’s also why you want every last piece of foam and film out of the chamber first.
First power-on
Once the shipping hardware is clear, installation is straightforward. Connect the power cord, and for machines that ship with a safety key (more on this below), make sure it’s seated before you switch the printer on. Power on at the rear switch, and the touchscreen walks you through initial setup and the first calibration pass. After that first calibration completes, go back and pull out any foam pieces that were sitting under the heatbed for shipping support, since some designs leave that piece in place until after the bed’s first movement.
Wi-Fi setup and Bambu Handy pairing
From the touchscreen, go to Settings, then Wi-Fi. The printer scans and lists nearby networks automatically. Pick yours, enter the password, and confirm. You should see a "successfully connected" message within a few seconds if everything goes through cleanly.
To bind the printer to your Bambu account, open the Login or Account section in Settings. The screen displays a QR code (and a PIN code as a backup). Open the Bambu Handy app on your phone, scan the QR code, and follow the prompts to finish linking the printer to your account. If you’d rather not use your phone at that moment, Bambu Studio on a computer can take the PIN code directly instead of scanning.
If the printer connects to Wi-Fi fine but won’t bind to Handy or Studio, the most common cause is your router’s client or device isolation setting, which blocks devices on the same network from talking to each other. Turning that off (or connecting your phone and printer to the same non-isolated network) usually clears it up.
Firmware check on first boot
Once the H2S is online and bound to your account, it checks in with Bambu’s servers and prompts you if a newer firmware version is available. Tap Update to install it. This can take a few minutes, and the one hard rule is not to cut power during the process. Bambu also documents an offline update path using a USB drive, worth knowing about if you’re setting this up somewhere without reliable Wi-Fi.
Heated chamber: the burn risk people underestimate
The H2S chamber is actively heated by a PTC element and rated up to 65°C, with the hotend itself capable of 350°C. That’s well above what most people expect from a "3D printer," and it’s easy to forget mid-print that the interior isn’t just warm, it’s hot enough to burn skin on contact. Let the chamber and bed cool down before reaching in to clear a failed print or grab a finished part, especially if you’re used to open-frame printers that cool almost immediately. The front door and top cover each use a pair of Hall sensors to detect when they’re opened, which pauses an active print, but that’s a print-quality safeguard, not a substitute for waiting until things are actually cool.
If you have the Laser variant: read this before you cut anything
The Laser variant adds a cutting and engraving module that is a different hazard class from anything else this printer does. Bambu’s own laser safety documentation rates the laser module itself as a Class 4 laser product. The complete printer is only rated Class 1, meaning safe under normal viewing conditions, when the enclosure, interlocks, and covers are fully intact and working. That distinction matters: it’s Class 1 because of the safety systems around it, not because the beam itself is inherently safe.
Two hardware interlocks exist because of this. An Emergency Stop Button and a Safety Key both have to be correctly installed before the laser will run at all; they sit at the input of the power supply and physically control whether it receives AC power. Bambu ships the printer with a safety key pre-installed at the back and a spare one built into the E-stop button itself. If you remove one, store it somewhere safe, since the laser won’t operate without it seated.
Eye protection matters just as much as the interlocks. The laser emits blue light at 455 nm, a wavelength that can pass through the cornea and lens to reach the retina, with potential for lasting damage. Laser protective goggles matched to that wavelength (Bambu sells goggles rated OD5+ for this module) are not optional accessories, they’re the actual protection layer between you and the beam. Never look directly into the beam path or any opening it might escape through. Bambu states that someone should be present and watching any time the laser is running, both for fire risk and unpredictable reflections, and recommends laser safety training before working with a Class 3B or 4 laser at all. Route the exhaust duct outdoors per local regulations, and before your first cut, physically check the chamber for leftover packing debris or anything flammable.
None of this applies if you bought the Standard H2S without the laser module. That hardware and its interlocks only exist on the Laser and Laser Full Combo configurations.
Filament and what happens next
The H2S doesn’t use an AMS hub the way some earlier Bambu printers do. Its internal buffer connects directly to up to four AMS 2 Pro or AMS HT units, or you can run it off an external spool holder for single-filament work. The AMS HT units matter if you’re planning to run higher-temperature engineering filaments; the standard AMS 2 Pro isn’t built for those.
Once Wi-Fi, account binding, and firmware are sorted, and any shipping foam is fully out of the chamber, the printer is ready for its first real calibration pass and test print. Bambu’s HMS system will flag any fault it hits along the way with a code and a QR code on screen linking to the wiki, so if something looks wrong during that first print, that’s your first stop before you start guessing.
