Creality K3: A Nozzle-Swapping Printer That Skips Most of the Purge Waste

Creality’s K3 swaps entire nozzle-and-hotend assemblies instead of purging filament through a shared nozzle. Unveiled at IFA 2026 with a 4.8-second swap time, but still no price or ship date.

Creality used IFA 2026 in Berlin to give its nozzle-changing system a real name, real numbers, and an award. The K3, the production printer built around what Creality calls KliTek, was named an Honoree at the IFA Innovation Awards 2026 on September 6, months after the concept first surfaced as a May teaser with no ship date attached. Creality’s M1 Filament Maker, a separate machine for turning shredded plastic and failed prints back into usable filament, won its own Innovation Award the same day.

Swapping the nozzle instead of the filament

Most current multicolor systems push a different filament through the same physical nozzle for every color change. Bambu’s AMS, Creality’s own CFS, and Anycubic’s ACE Pro all work this way: retract the old filament, load the new one, then purge enough plastic through the hot end to flush out the old color before the print looks clean again. That purge step is where most of the wasted filament, and most of the added print time, actually comes from.

KliTek avoids it by giving the K3 four separate channels, each with its own complete nozzle, hot end, and filament path already loaded. Changing color means swapping which assembly is doing the printing, not pushing new material through a shared melt zone. Creality puts the swap itself at 4.8 seconds and claims the combined effect is up to 80 percent less print time and up to 85 percent less wasted filament than a single-nozzle system doing the same multicolor job. Those numbers come from Creality’s own internal testing, and the company says actual results will vary, so treat them as a ceiling rather than a guarantee until independent reviewers get a unit on a bench.

Beyond four colors

Four independent channels open up combinations a single fixed nozzle cannot do at all. Optional add-on accessories let the K3 mix nozzle diameters mid-print, pairing a 0.4 mm nozzle for outer walls with a 0.8 mm nozzle for infill, which Creality says speeds up printing by another 30 percent on parts that do not need fine detail everywhere. The same swapping mechanism also lets the printer run soft TPU in the 85A to 95A range alongside rigid filament in one build, a combination that tends to jam single-nozzle multicolor systems once the hardness gap between materials gets too wide.

Where this sits next to what already exists

Creality is not the first company to go around the shared-nozzle purge problem. Prusa’s INDX toolchanger and the multi-toolhead XL solve it by parking an entire toolhead, print head, motor, wiring and all, at the edge of the bed and swapping the whole assembly in and out. That works, but it means moving a lot more mass on every change, and it has mostly stayed at toolchanger pricing. KliTek’s bet is that swapping just the nozzle and hot end, while leaving the rest of the toolhead in place, gets most of the purge savings without that extra weight or price. Whether that holds up once the K3 leaves the trade show floor is the real open question, and it is one that will need an independent review to answer rather than a spec sheet from Creality itself. What Creality still has not said

There is no price yet and no firm ship date beyond the “Q3 2026” window the K3 was already carrying before IFA. Creality’s last two K-series flagships, the K1 Max and K2 Plus, launched at $759 and $999, which at least gives a sense of where the company’s top tier usually lands, though nothing so far confirms the K3 will land in that same range. The same Berlin announcement also detailed the SPARKX i8, a four-color printer taking the opposite approach: one toolhead with a shared melt zone instead of swappable nozzles, aimed at a lower price than the K3 rather than at cutting purge waste to nearly zero.

What Creality showed at IFA is a real product with real specifications, not another teaser page. The date on the calendar and the number on the price tag are still missing, and those are the two details that will actually decide whether the K3 is worth waiting for.
