Sovol maintains its own build of OrcaSlicer for the SV08, called Sovol-OrcaSlicer, currently at version 2.3.0 and hosted on GitHub. It ships with ready-made profiles for PLA, TPU, ABS and PETG, each available at 0.2, 0.6 and 0.8 mm nozzle sizes, which saves you from building a profile from scratch before you’ve even seen the printer lay down a layer.
There’s no published click-by-click onboarding wizard for this software, unlike some competing slicers that walk new users through printer selection on first launch. What’s verifiable is simpler anyway: install the Sovol build, select the SV08 printer preset, match the filament preset to whatever is actually loaded, and pick the process preset for the nozzle size fitted to your machine. Getting any one of those three wrong, printer, filament, or nozzle size, is one of the more common reasons a first print fails on any FDM machine that leans on preset-based slicing, and the SV08 is no exception.
Since the machine is already on the network from the setup stage, sending the sliced file over WiFi through Mainsail is the most direct route to the printer, though Mainsail supports other ways of getting a job onto the machine too.
One thing worth knowing before you slice: Klipper’s input shaping and pressure advance, both of which the SV08 supports, are calibration passes people usually run after a few prints, not before the first one. There’s no need to chase either setting for this print. The stock Sovol profile is built to produce a reasonable result without them, and tuning those values properly benefits from having a printer that’s already proven it can finish a job. Treat the first print as a check that the printer, slicer, and network connection all work together, and save the fine-tuning for once you’ve got a baseline to compare against.
A finished first print is a good sign, not proof the SV08 is fully dialed in.
